Arsenal reportedly sold Mesut Ozil to Fenerbahce on a free transfer, entitling them to future payments from the Turkish outfit.

Ozil left the Emirates having been frozen out by Gunners boss Mikel Arteta, not featuring on the pitch since March.

He has joined Fenerbahce, with it being believed that Ozil had his Arsenal contract terminated to allow the move.

Though it seems that was not the case with The Athletic reporting that the move was in fact a free transfer.

And, because of that, it’s reported that the Gunners could be entitled to future bonuses from Fenerbahce following the move.

It’s not clear the amount that the Gunners could earn, though Ozil was pocketing £350,000 per week during his time in north London.

Fenerbahce have even asked their fans to help pay for Ozil’s wages because they have £500m of debt.

Club president Ali Koc said: “We have a request for our fans. Please continue to support us, we are also dependent on your financial support.

“Maybe 300,000, 500,000 or maybe even a million text messages come together. This support will do us very good.”

Ozil posted a statement saying goodbye to Arsenal following his move.

He wrote: “I’d like to thank the club for this amazing journey over the past seven-and-a-half years.

"The support I have felt from the team and fans during my time here has been truly incredible and something I will always be grateful for.
