All-Ireland final repeat to open Allianz Football League

All-Ireland champions Armagh will open their Allianz Football League Division One campaign with a trip to Galway in a repeat of this year's Sam Maguire decider.

Kieran McGeeney's side will travel to Salthill on Saturday, 25 January (17:15 GMT) in their first competitive outing since beating the Tribesmen 1-11 to 0-13 to win gaelic football's most coveted prize for just the second time.

Galway and Armagh's reunion is the first in a heavyweight Saturday double-header with Dublin hosting long-time rivals Mayo at Croke Park at 19:30.

The opening weekend's fixtures have also pitted Ulster rivals Tyrone and Derry together at Healy Park on Saturday (18:00), which will mark the start of Malachy O'Rourke and Paddy Tally's respective managerial reigns.

Ulster champions Donegal, who pipped Armagh to the Division Two title, will begin their top-flight programme against Kerry in Killarney on 26 January (13:45) in a game that could mark Michael Murphy's inter-county return after coming out of retirement.

With no pre-season competitions in 2025, the opening round of the league will be the first competitive outing for Gaelic football's new rules after they were passed at last weekend's Special Congress.
