Eighth-tier Ramsgate win in FA Cup; Aldershot hit Swindon for seven

National League Aldershot put seven past League Two side Swindon, while eighth-tier Ramsgate moved into round two for the first time on an action-packed Saturday in the FA Cup first round.

Jack Barham's hat-trick helped Aldershot make history at the County Ground as they became the first non-league side to score seven against league opponents in a 7-4 victory.

National League South leaders Yeovil Town made it through to round two for the third season running after beating National League outfit Gateshead 3-2.

Sixth-tier Scarborough Athletic earned a replay with League Two strugglers Forest Green Rovers after Olly Sully's stoppage-time equaliser spared the EFL side's blushes.

With goals flying in throughout the day's 33 fixtures, Bristol Rovers were the second to hit seven as they beat seventh-tier Whitby Town 7-2.

'It tops everything'

Ramsgate were one of three eighth-tier sides to reach the first round - all from the Isthmian League South East - with Sheppey going out to Walsall on Friday, and Cray Valley Paper Mills set to take on League One Charlton on Sunday.

The Kent side, playing just their third tie in the FA Cup, sit 62 places lower than National League Woking, but after TJ Jadama had cancelled out Dennon Lewis' opener, Martin fired in a superb free-kick with 18 minutes left.

"We've been trying that all season," Ramsgate boss Ben Smith told BBC Radio Kent.

"We've had a few off the line, a few fluffed lines and I said to the boys 'don't change because it's an FA Cup game, we're going to score with this today'.

"We went for it again and what a goal. When they come off they look fantastic.

"I've had people ask me where this game was in terms of what I've done in football and having gone and won it, it tops everything - it's incredible."

Swindon boss 'hurt and embarrassed'

Swindon made just four changes for the home tie with Aldershot, but found themselves 3-0 down inside nine minutes as Barham grabbed a four-minute brace before Josh Stokes struck.

Lorent Tolaj scored either side of the break and Cian Harries also found the net before Barham sealed his hat-trick as Aldershot found themselves 7-0 up with less than an hour gone.

Town pulled four goals back in the final 15 minutes, but it was too late to deny the Shots their first away win in the FA Cup first round or beyond in 11 years.

"I'm hurt, I'm embarrassed," Swindon manager Michael Flynn told BBC Radio Wiltshire.

"Aldershot have come here and they've given it their all. They worked as a team, they outfought us, they outplayed us at times and we looked like a team that has never played together before. That's inexcusable.

"We were 3-0 down in nine minutes and the ball was out of play for two-and-a-half of that, maybe three, so in six minutes we are 3-0 down to a team who's non-league. And it got worse.

"The first half is the worst I've been involved in at any level."

Gulf tells for Whitby, but Bracknell go close

The day's biggest mismatch sent seventh-tier Whitby to Bristol Rovers who sit 95 places higher in League One.

Junior Mondal lashed home to give Whitby's travelling fans an equaliser to cheer, but the Pirates were 4-1 up by half-time. Connor Simpson pulled one back, but the League One side ran out 7-2 winners - with seven different scorers.

The gulf between Cambridge United and Southern League side Bracknell was almost equally wide - at 94 places.

But the League One side were made to battle all the way as they came through 2-1 after Ben Harris had halved the deficit with two minutes left.

Seventh-tier Marine could not repeat their heroics of 2020-21 when they reached round three, as they were beaten by League Two opponents Harrogate.

Chris Doyle headed the Northern Premier League side level on 26 minutes, but that was as good as it got as Sam Falorin's double helped the visitors ease away to a 5-1 win.

League Two leaders Stockport cruised through 5-1 against Worksop Town, of the Northern Premier League, and sixth-tier Hereford went down 2-0 at home to Gillingham.

'The boys are devastated'

Scarborough Athletic were seconds away from reaching round two

Alex Wiles' 27th-minute close-range strike for National League North side Scarborough looked to be causing the upset of the round before Sully's last-gasp equaliser rescued Forest Green at the Flamingo Land Stadium.

The sides will replay in Gloucestershire on Tuesday, 14 November.

"We need to be up for it, we need to put a very similar performance on, and if we do that we could get a result," Scarborough manager Jonathan Greening told BBC Radio York.

"The boys are devastated because they've put an absolute shift in today against a team who are two leagues higher than us.

"We knew we had to be on it today if we wanted to get a positive result, but we were so unlucky not to see out that final minute.

"It was just one lapse of concentration which killed us, but for the other 92 minutes we were absolutely superb all over the pitch."

Elsewhere, sixth-tier Yeovil Town held off a late fightback to beat fifth-tier Gateshead 3-2 at Huish Park, thanks to Rhys Murphy's double and a Toby Stevens strike.

Other sixth-tier sides in the hat

Fellow sixth-tier sides Maidstone United and Alfreton Town joined National League Barnet and Eastleigh in the round two draw after winning all non-league ties, while York and Chester will replay after a goalless draw.

Among all-EFL ties, three League Two sides knocked out League One opponents.

Barrow saw off Northampton 3-1 on the road, AFC Wimbledon hammered Cheltenham Town 5-1, and Morecambe won 2-1 at Lincoln.

The second-round draw takes place at 14:30 GMT on Sunday.
