GB's Musgrave claims career-best World Cup result

Britain's Andrew Musgrave claimed the best result of his World Cup career, finishing second in Trondheim, Sweden.

He completed the 20km skiathlon in 41 minutes 51.4 seconds, just seven seconds behind Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo and one second ahead of Didrik Toenseth, both from Norway

Musgrave, 33, had twice finished third, his last podium coming in 2022.

His second place equalled Britain's best ever World Cup cross-country result, matching Andrew Young in 2020.

Young finished 46th in Trondheim, while British team-mate Joe Davies was 51st.

"I feel in good shape," said Musgrave, who continued a strong run of form this season in claiming his fourth top-10 finish.

"It's still early in the season and I feel like I've still got plenty of good races to come. Now I've really got to try and get a victory under my belt."

The Poole-born skier lives in Trondheim, which will host the World Championships in 2024.

Jostein Vinjerui, GB's cross-country team manager, said Musgrave's podium finish was a "very important result for the whole team".

He added: "This has been an amazing day for us. Andrew's really showed his level this season as one of the best skiers in the world."
