John Higgins and reigning world champion Kyren Wilson are through to the third round of the British Open.

Four-time world champion Higgins won 4-2 against another former champion in Shaun Murphy, while Wilson beat Duane Jones of Wales 4-1.

Higgins took the opening three frames before Murphy fought back to win the next two, including a break of 84, but the Scot bounced back with an 82 break to clinch victory.

World number two Wilson won the opening frame thanks to a 92 break, before Jones levelled, but the Englishman produced a break of 114 as he took the next three frames to seal the win.

Higgins will take on compatriot Graeme Dott in Cheltenham on Thursday while Wilson will play Hong Kong's Marco Fu.

World number one Judd Trump faces fellow Englishman Mark Davis as he bids to claim the 1,000th century break of his career.

Only two players have reached the landmark before - Ronnie O'Sullivan in 2019 and Higgins during his 4-3 defeat by Mark Allen in the English Open last week.

Four-time world champion Mark Selby faces Yuan Sijun in one of the opening third-round matches during Wednesday's evening session.
