Former Chelsea and Everton manager Frank Lampard is not in the running for the vacant Rangers managerial position.

But Lampard will not be part of the club's final-stage interview process, which will start next week.

Beale left Rangers last Sunday following a home defeat to Aberdeen.

It was a third Scottish Premiership loss in seven games for the former Queens Park Rangers manager, whose tenure was brought to an end less than a year after his appointment.

Steven Davis and Alex Rae were immediately placed in interim charge, but their caretaker spell got off to a sobering start with poor Europa League defeat away to Aris Limassol on Thursday.

Rangers are next in action on Sunday lunchtime, when they face St Mirren in Paisley.
