Lawes wants to finish a one-club man with Saints

Northampton Saints lock Courtney Lawes insists he wants to finish his career as a one-club man, but admits it may not be possible.

He has made more than 260 appearances for Saints since his debut in 2007.

When asked if he would see out the rest of his career with Saints, Lawes said: "I'd love to."

But Lawes, who signed his latest deal in April, said remaining with the Premiership side will need more than just desire to make it happen.

He has previously spoken about being tempted by a possible move to France and has recently opened up about how the planned introduction of 'hybrid contracts', which will allow England greater control over players, could help keep them from seeking riches elsewhere.

"It's one of those where it's not always my choice," Lawes told BBC Radio Northampton.

"I very nearly ended up not being able to stay here last year, which certainly wouldn't have been my choice.

"It's one of them where we are in a professional environment and contracts play a massive part of that.

"I'm going to do everything in my power to stay and be a one-club man but it's not only down to me, unfortunately. So we will see what happens."

Since retiring from England duty, Lawes has also said he could consider making an international return for a third British and Irish Lions tour in 2025 - if he is still playing the game then.
