A man who admitted stalking Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Cole has been jailed for 16 weeks.

Daniel Bannister, 50, of no fixed address, targeted the pop star, who uses the stage name Cheryl, while she was living in the Chalfonts area of Buckinghamshire.

He had admitted harassment, breaching a restraining order, and attempting to breach a restraining order, at an earlier hearing at High Wycombe Magistrates' Court.

District Judge Arvind Sharma said Bannister had already been made the subject of a restraining order barring him from contacting the 41-year-old or going to her home, and he imposed a new indefinite restraining order.

The defendant had been remanded in custody ahead of sentencing.
