Simeone has won eight trophies while in charge of Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has extended his contract with the La Liga club until June 2027.

The Argentine was appointed to the role in December 2011 and has won 380 of his 642 matches in charge.

Simeone has led the Spanish side to eight trophies and is their most successful manager.

The 53-year-old's honours at Atletico include winning La Liga in 2014 and 2021, the Europa League in 2012 and 2018, and the Copa del Rey in 2013.

The club have also been Champions League runners-up under Simeone in 2014 and 2016.

Atletico are currently fourth in the Spanish top flight, and top of their Champions League group with two games remaining.
