Swans 'together' under caretaker Sheehan - Grimes

Swansea City captain Matt Grimes has hailed the squad's togetherness under caretaker boss Alan Sheehan, who will remain in temporary charge away to Stoke City on Tuesday.

Tottenham have rejected a Swansea approach for their coach Chris Davies.

Grimes says Irishman Sheehan "deserved" his post-match celebrations with fans at the New York Stadium.

"It's his first game as manager, leading the team, so I think it was deserved and the fans obviously were showing their appreciation, he showed his appreciation at the end, as we all did," said Grimes.

"Training's been good. The group is so together and I think that's all we can do, work hard and try to put on a performance and that's what we did, a tough place to come and thankfully we got the win.

"We've only had three training days [under Sheehan]. So it was just 'heads down and get to work' and prepare for the game, which is what we did."

It is unclear what Sheehan's long term future holds at Swansea, with the club's former analyst Davies identified as a leading candidate to succeed Duff.

Although the Premier League rebutted Swansea's interest in their senior assistant coach last week, Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou says it is still Davies' decision to make.

Grimes says the players will not be affected by speculation over the role.

"We are not interested in that," added Grimes.

"We just need to crack on and do our jobs. We need to turn up to training every day and work hard for whoever's in charge and that's exactly what we'll do. Get prepared for the Tuesday night game and go there and try and get three points.

"It's never easy to see people lose their jobs after the amount of change we had in the summer and then more change now, but the lads stick together brilliantly. It's such a great group, with heads down getting to work and thankfully we got some to show for it.

"Football is a results driven business. Obviously, we had a difficult start to the season, a difficult spell just recently. It's football, we can only wish him [Duff] all the best and crack on.

"I think we're six points off the play-offs and five points off the bottom three, so it's still so tight. We just need to keep working hard and try and build a bit of momentum after this win.

"You want to take every game as it comes from the start of the season. You try and pick up as much momentum as you can, especially over the Christmas period when the games come, thick and fast.

"We will just focus on the next game at Stoke and keep trying to plug away and climb up the table".
